Tantra is the approach to Spirituality of Fully Engaging with the World, and with life

Everyone deserves the sanctuary of spiritual connection, to be in touch with the depths of themselves and to feel a sense of connection to the wider spiritual forces.
There is evidence that we've had that in various forms throughout all of human history, but the speed of modern living has made it far less of a priority. Turns out, our mental and emotional health doesn't do so well without it.

To complicate things, while there is much beauty and wisdom within mainstream religion, the way it has played out culturally has been psychology damaging - causing many to reject spiritual life altogether. Even without being a member of any particular faith, the cultural imprint has left millions with a sense of shame towards their own bodies and sexuality, and an idea of God or The Divine as being something outside of themselves - in an elevated realm beyond worldly concerns.

In the process of establishing dominance, these mainstream religions are all guilty of war crimes against people of other spiritual traditions and ways of seeing things, particularly the Goddess traditions with female priestesses and a reverence for the Divine Feminine.

One of these traditions is Tantra. It developed alongside yoga in India and has similarly reached across the world as the spiritual approach of choice for many. Here are some of the basic tenets:

1) The body is considered sacred, intimate areas and intimacy itself included

2) There is an emphasis on having a felt experience of the divine yourself, through spiritual practice

3) Yes, God - the original consciousness at the root of creation, does occupy higher realms. This consciousness is also the very fabric of the reality you live in; every atom, every being here. Specifically:

The aspect of God that manifests everything in the natural world, from material things to subtle spiritual energy, is considered to be the feminine aspect (classically referred to as Shakti)

The aspect of God that is unmanifested ('void' or emptiness with the potential to become anything) is more associated with consciousness itself. This is considered to be the masculine aspect (classically referred to as Shiva)

4) What this means is that you can have a deep and meaningful relationship to Source Consciousness by having the right mindset and fully engaging with the world, loving your body and all the gifts that come from being alive in this world.

5) Tantra has many tools for healing the body and mind, for energetic personal development such as expanding the heart and ultimately for spiritual growth. But it is not a system set in stone, it is not a religion. It is an approach to spirituality you can have alongside any religion you value, or none at all. You take as little or as much as what feels right for you.
